Happy 12th Birthday Micah

Dear Micah,

Twelve years ago I received one of the greatest gifts of my life when you were born, and I became your daddy. I thank God every day for giving you to me and for the special privilege of being your Dad.

2017 was a very special year for our family. We started the year with a trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium where we saw sea otters, jellyfish, a giant octopus and much more. I was excited to watch you and your brothers develop into much better basketball players. You are all about the defense and do a great job guarding your opponent.

You graduated from 5th Grade this year and moved into the last year of Grade School. Not only that, but we joined a new charter school (Inspire) that mommy got to start working for part-time.

I think that you had the “Best Summer Ever” this year! 2017 was your last year of Vacation Bible School, and you had a blast at “Ocean Commotion.” We went camping at Sugar Pine in Lake Tahoe with our friends the Sumners and the Guesses. You got to spend a couple of weeks with Grandma & Papa and with Nana & Granddaddy. At the end of July, we went to Morro Bay for a week with just our family. You and your brothers boogey boarded every day, swam in the ocean and got very tan. Right after our vacation, we had a new arrival when we got “Odys” the Odyssey :-).

The fall brought another new experience as you began attending Edventure on Tuesdays & Thursdays. You have such a good time there and have made lots of good friends. September-November was full of lots of fun field trips to Pumpkin Patches, roller skating rinks, water parks and much more.

Finally, we filled our Christmas season with as much Holiday Fun as we possibly could with trips to look at Christmas Lights, special dinners out, lots of presents, special advent readings and much more. We spent Christmas Eve & Christmas Day at our home in Cool and then left for our Christmas Vacation at Cayucos and Bakersfield.

Something new this year was that after we got back from our vacation, I left for a week to attend classes at The Master’s Seminary as I work on my Doctor of Ministry degree. I heard that you did a great job “holding down the fort” here at home while I was away :-).

Micah, I know that a lot of things are going to change in the years to come as you continue to grow up. You’re going to grow taller (much taller than me). You’ll probably start to grow a beard :-). You’ll start to notice girls in a different way (yikes!), and you will probably start sleeping in a lot. But, in spite of everything that is about to change, I want to remind you that there are some things that will never change. You see, no matter where you are in life, you can rest assured that you are a great sinner, but take heart my boy because Christ is a great savior.

I am so proud of the young man that you are becoming, of the boldness with which you share Christ with others and of your tender, compassionate heart. I have no doubt that the Lord will use you for great things in the years to come. I love you with all of my heart.
