My Recent Conversion

Moving to the northwest I knew that a lot of things would change about my life. Amy and I got rain jackets (we’d never really seen rain before), we adjusted to the sun staying up ’til 10pm during the summer and setting at 4pm in the winter, but in the end I had no idea how personally and intimately living here would affect me.

Fear not I haven’t gone granola like many of my fellow Washingtonians. I still wash my hair, shave my face, and I don’t think recycling will save the world. However, I have recently had a serious conversion experience when it comes to my beverage of choice.

Growing up in CA I always drank Coke or Pepsi (by the way I still refuse to call it pop…grrrrrrrr), but since moving to Washington I have begun to drink coffee voraciously. It all began innocently enough with a latte here and there, but I swore I’d never drink the regular drip coffee. Then one day I saw a pot at church and figured just one cup wouldn’t hurt me. Pretty soon one cup turned into two and the rest is history. I now buy my beans at Starbucks and keep them in a vacuum sealed plastic baggy in the freezer. I finally broke down and bought a grinder so that I can have the freshest grounds and just recently I finally got my French Press…I’m so ashamed :-) . I’m not sure how far this coffee addiction will go, but I have been eyeing those super fancy coffee makers that drip the coffee into a sealed thermos to lock in the flavor…Christmas presents anyone (ha! ha!).

Drew, you should look into the coffee pots that grind, brew and drip the coffee into a carafe that keeps it hot for hours without it going bitter. You will never look back.
